This past week, I’ve been seeking out different ways to remind me (and encourage me) to continue trying new things. I accidentally found out what TED can teach about new things.
While I was searching for new things, I came across this TED Talk that I thought I’d share. As a TED Talk, it’s shorter than most, but it contains the valuable essence of all TED Talks–something must be learned.
In this particular video, Matt Cutts talks about trying something new for 30 days. The point is to not only try something new but to do it for 30 days to incorporate it as a habit.
Of course, every new thing doesn’t have to be a big step. Try a new food this week. In my house there is one rule regarding all food, you can choose to not eat any food you dislike, but you have to try it at least once before you can say you dislike it.
Other, simple new things you can try:
Drive a new route to work.
Go to a movie or a restaurant by yourself.
Go to the library to find a new book. Actually, go inside a library don’t just Kindle it or Audible it.
Watch the sunrise in the morning.
Create a secret handshake with your partner or child.
Just for fun, thrift an outfit for work or play. Buy something that you would never usually buy.
Make a vision board.
Take a picnic lunch and a book to your favorite park.
Order something completely different at your coffee shop or ask them to surprise you.
These are just a few, easy examples of new things you can try any day. Why not today?

Fun! Thanks for the ideas, Jennifer!
Glad you liked them.
A simple, intriguing idea. And you made some interesting suggestions. I didn’t realize some TED talks are so short.
I loved this! So much of life is chipping away everyday. It may not seem like much (including writing that novel), but eventually it adds up.
I am so pumped right now! The next 30 days are going to be awesome!
