This week’s Sunday Stills photo challenge is Sweet. A lot of things come to mind with that word, but living in Orlando, the first thing that I thought of was how to have a sweet date night with my hubby.
We are enjoying all of the benefits that come with being a resident of Florida and especially of Orlando. Right down the street from where we live, and actually next door to where my husband works is Disney Springs. We love going there to see movies at the theater, eat in some favorite restaurants (like Frontera Cocina) shopping, and walking around to enjoy the sights.
Our date nights start at the AMC Theater to see a movie. Usually, we go to the Dine-In side because we loved being served our popcorn and soda. This time we had free tickets to the regular theater, so we had to get our own snacks. We saw Knives Out, which was a fun Agatha Christie type romp through a murder mystery in which all of the family members are suspect. It kept us guessing and laughing.
Then we purposely ended up at Port Orleans French Quarter, which is part of Disney as well. What’s fun about each of the Disney Properties is that each has its own unique flair, including restaurants and music that fit the theme. The French Quarter is not a disappointment with their Scat Cat Club. Part jazz club and part beignet cafe.
And that’s what we were there for…the beignets. Not just any beignets either. They make liquor-infused ones. And, oh my, they were pretty good.
My husband had the Baily’s infused beignet, which is my #Sweet #SundayStills photo challenge picture. Hopefully, through this challenge, I’ll get better at food shots! The second picture is the FireBall Whiskey beignet. Both were very good, but that FireBall Whiskey one was HOT! in more ways than one. Yes, that is a Fireball Candy sauce that is over the top of the beignet.
We had to inject our own shot of liquor into the beignets. I guess we could have just had a shot and then eaten the beignets plain. But where’s the adventure in that?
And, because my husband is not only a Chef but also a Chocolatier. Here’s another sweet picture. Champagne Truffles that he created when we had our chocolate shop, Cocoashak.

Wow–those chocolates are gorgeous. There’s a restaurant in our village–a seafood place, mostly, and not New Orleans-themed–that has wonderful beignets. And they’re so popular, when they do a holiday buffet, there is one person in the kitchen in charge of nothing else but frying beignets–yum! Sounds like you had a sweet date with your husband. With V-day right around the corner, I better get planning!
I don’t have a sweet tooth at all – and yes, I love to bake, so go figure! Those beignets look great – as do the chocolates. I’ll take the whisky though… 🙂
