I’ve been seeing a lot of people posting playlists for different reasons (for November, for a yoga class, for a break-up) and I thought it would be fun to post a playlist of my life up until this moment.  So here is a playlist of songs that were either number 1 hits during a significant moment in my life or songs that were significant to me.

I was born in November of 1961 and the number one hit at that time was Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean.  Yes, that Jimmy Dean who made sausage famous.

I was the youngest in my family and had sisters who were 20 and 15 years older than I was, so I was introduced to a variety of music at a young age.  In 1968, my favorite song (and still to this day,) was I Heard It Through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye.  At 7, I couldn’t tell you what the song was about, but there was just something about that beat that connected to my soul and oh….that voice!

When I graduated school in 1980, Funky Town by Lipps, Inc.  What can I say, apparently, the 70’s weren’t dead yet for some bands.

Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer was the number 1 hit the week I got married in 1986.  Who can forget that video?  Of course, I’m always curious about how this man can create some of the most danceable music of our time and yet still look so awkward in his own videos.

When my son was born in January of 1987, Shake You Down by Gregory Abbott was the number one hit for that week.  I don’t remember the song at all.  Guess I was a little busy.

In 2006, I graduated from a yoga teacher program and this song was one of my favorites.  I loved nothing more than to finish a yoga practice and collapse into savasana while Baba Hanuman by Krishan Das was playing.

In 2008, I met the love of my life and he suckered me in with a corny reference to this David Soul song…..yes the original Hutch in Starsky and Hutch from the 70’s baby!

I hope you enjoyed a stroll through the music of my life.  What songs were significant during the milestones of your life?
